Mac Keyboard Shortcuts
These are some of the most useful Mac-only keyboard
shortcuts to help you move faster, fix mistakes, and feel more confident using your Mac.
You
donβt need to memorize them all β even learning a few can make a big difference!
Feel free to

π§ Everyday Basics
- β Command + C β Copy
- β Command + V β Paste
- β Command + X β Cut
- β Command + A β Select All
- β Command + Z β Undo (your
best friend!)
- β Command + Shift + Z β Redo
πͺ Window & App Control
- β Command + Tab β Switch between open apps (keep
clicking Tab to cycle through the open apps in the App Picker)
- β Command + H β Hide the
current app
- β Command + Q β Quit the current app
- β Command + M β Minimize the
current window
π Finder & File Shortcuts
- β Command + Space β Open Spotlight search
- β Command + N β New Finder window
- β Command + Delete β Move selected file to
Trash
- β Command + Shift + Delete β Empty Trash (careful!)
- Space bar β Click
once on a file in the Finder/Desktop, then hit Space Bar for Quick Look to preview files
instantly. Click Spacebar again to toggle off.

- β Command + Arrow keys β Jump to start or end of
a line
- β Command + B β Bold text (in most apps)
- β Command + I β Italic

- β Command + Shift + 4 β Screenshot a selected area: drag the target cursor from one corner to
another around what you want to screenshot and let go.

π§Ή When Something Feels Stuck
- β Command + β₯ (Option) + Esc β Force Quit an
app: in the window that appears, click on the app you want to force quit, then click Force Quit
at the bottom right.
- β Command + W β Close the current window

Refresh or reload (in web browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox)
β Friendly Tip
You donβt need to use all of these. Start with Copy, Paste, Undo, Spotlight, and
Screenshots β theyβre the biggest time-savers.
Over time, your fingers will remember them
automatically.
Macs are designed to be forgiving, so donβt be afraid to explore.
If something goes
wrong, thereβs almost always an Undo.
